Before the arrests. Before the parole violations. Before Roscoe showed up and somehow made everything worse...
There were just two.
Winchester and Dean.
And putting them together was less like introducing two dogs...
and more like accidentally filming a hound version of Step Brothers.
Winchester was the proper English gentleman.
Calm.
Dignified.
Had standards.
Dean was the Southern hunting dog who showed up with the energy of a man who had just been told:
βGood news. You have a new brother, and he lives here now.β
Neither one was impressed.
Winchester looked at Dean like:
"Who invited this hillbilly into my house?"
Dean looked at Winchester like:
"Why does this fancy dude think he owns the couch?"
For the first few days, everything became a competition.
Who got through the door first?
Who got the best spot on the couch?
Who got Dad's attention?
Who could bark louder?
Who could locate the deer faster?
Who could leave the most slobber in the water bowl?
Neither one would admit they liked the other.
They would sit on opposite sides of the room pretending the other didn't exist...
Until something moved outside.
A deer.
A squirrel.
A suspicious leaf.
Suddenly...
They were a TEAM.
Winchester:
"You saw that, right?"
Dean:
*"Yep."*
Winchester:
"Fence?"
Dean:
"Fence."
And somewhere along the way, the rivalry turned into partnership.
They started sleeping near each other.
Patrolling the yard together.
Backing each other up when something suspicious appeared at the wood line.
And, unfortunately for me...
collaborating on escape plans.
That's when I realized I didn't have two dogs anymore.
I had a criminal organization.
Winchester brought the athletic ability.
Dean brought the hunting experience.
Together, they developed a business model based almost entirely on poor decisions.
One would sound the alarm.
The other would investigate.
One would find the weakness in the perimeter.
The other would exploit it.
And if one of them got caught?
The other one suddenly knew absolutely nothing.
By the end of their first chapter together, Winchester and Dean had gone from:
βWhy is HE here?β
to
βWhere are WE going?β
They weren't technically brothers.
But don't tell them that.
Because before the Bad Hound Gang became three...
These two were already proving that sometimes the brother you didn't ask for becomes the one standing beside you when the deer shows up.
And also the one helping you figure out how to get over the fence.
π Winchester: The sophisticated one.
π Dean: The country boy.
π€ Relationship status: Best friends who would still absolutely blame each other during questioning.
And that was the beginning.
Two hounds. One house. Zero adult supervision.
The original Bad Hound Step Brothers. ππΎ
